 Emma Snowsill: Interview

Triathlete Tribe: You finished 6th at the 2nd event of the ITU World Championship series in Seoul after missing Sydney due to a virus. How do feel about your performance and how are you feeling about your form in general?

Emma: I’m really happy after eleven months out I didn't have a whole lot of expectations apart from seeing how the body was coping with the work load and what I was able to do after the virus. The race was more than anything I had been able to do in the last year. It was more or less a good hit out for me and to basically access where I was at. I was really happy with my performance. It was a long time out from racing and you can notice the difference. I enjoyed being back out there.

Triathlete Tribe: You finished the 2009 season 19th in the World rankings. What were the highs and lows of this season and what are your goals for the 2010 season?

Emma: Well there weren’t many highs, I didn’t really race that much. I only raced a few times and when I did I was injured. I had to access where I was at and why I was getting injured, whilst learning from my mistakes. I got my three bad luck things out of the way for the year and now I hope I’m good to go for the rest of my career uninjured.

My goal for this season is to pick back up the work load. I haven’t really been able to have a solid twelve months of training for a long time due to injuries and illness. So this year is about building up, getting to the races fit and healthy, recovering from them and getting through the season. Through out all this I’m building up my preparation for London.

Triathlete Tribe: Can you tell us a bit about your injuries last year?

Emma: The first injury that occurred was from surfing. I cracked my ribs just trying to have a bit of fun in the off season. This led to me trying to push things to quickly. I was overly eager to get back into it and I pushed the envelope just a little to soon and I ended up paying for it.

Even at this stage of my career I’m learning from things and I know I have to listen to my body and I can’t be dictated by the people around me. It’s all proven that some times patience is the best virtue.

Triathlete Tribe: What would you class as your biggest carreer highlight?

Emma: Definitely Beijing. It’s far and above any goal I have achieved. Being an Olympian was amazing and to top that off coming away with the gold medal was something else. A close second would be competing in the Commonwealth Games. The home crowd was phenomenal, I’ve never experienced that sort of arena and that sort of biased home town support, it was incredible.

Triathlete Tribe: Favourite movie?

Emma: I like light hearted movies, so I’m going to go with Wedding Crashers.

Triathlete Tribe: Favourite food?

Emma: I’m not sure if I could name one. Food is basically my life outside of training.

Triathlete Tribe: Thank you and good luck this year.
