Madeleine oldfield blog: Gatorade Tri Series Race #6 - St kilda

March 23, 2011, 8:14pm

Today was the final round of the 2010/11 Gatorade Triathlon Series held at St Kilda. Melbourne turned on the weather and for once we couldn't have asked for better conditions.

It has taken me most of the week to recover from last weeks race at Huskison. For the majority of the week I have felt pretty flat and the legs have seen better days. However, I was still looking to put in a solid performance in today's race and to ensure that I got the series win for the 2010/11 Gatorade Triathlon Series.

The race was set to be a cracker with the likes of Olympian Erin Densham toeing the start line. I knew the key for me would be the swim - if I wanted to be in the mix I had to be out in that first pack on the bike.

I had one of my best swims to date and headed out onto the bike course in 2nd position, where we soon formed a strong lead pack of four girls. We all rode well together and came into T2 about 45sec up on the 2nd pack. I had a great transition and got out onto the run course in equal first with Densham, where she soon set a cracking pace that unfortunately I couldn't hold onto. I still ran well though and crossed the line in 2nd place Elite Female. This result was enough to take the series win in the Elite Female category and to round out my best summer seasons to date, which has included four 1sts and one 2nd in the 2010/11 Gatorade Triathlon Series, 1st Pro Female at the 2011 Falls Creek Victorian Long Course Champs, 3rd Pro Female at the 2011 Australian Long Course Champs and 5th Pro Female at the 2010 Shepparton Half Ironman.

I couldn't have asked for a better summer - I have found a level of consistency that I haven't had in previous seasons. All the hard work is starting to pay off and I am looking forward to a big season in the States this year.

I have almost finalised my race calendar for the 2011 US season and will post it up on my website shortly (www.madeleineoldfield.com).

This week is going to be a pretty cruisey week, with lots of sleep and not much training for a change!! I am heading up to Bright at the end of the week to recharge the batteries before getting back into it all.

Thanks to all who supported me over the summer including all of my sponsors as well as Mum, Dad, Sam and my coach Josh Rix. It has been an awesome ride and I am still loving every minute of it!!

Triathlon fever to hit Elwood Beach: Gatorade Tri Series

March 2, 2011, 3:08pm
Race 5 of the Gatorade Triathlon Series 2010/11 will be held at Elwood Beach in Elwood on Sunday 6 March 2011, with a field of over 2,400 triathletes set to take on Victoria's premier triathlon series!

The event promises to showcase the premier series, with another stellar field of national and international level triathletes ready to take on the course, covering a 500m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run.

AIS triathlete and winner of Race 1 and 2 Brendan Sexton, is set to lead out the pack after some solid training camps. Sexton will be up against a strong contingent including ex-AFL footballer Tim Clarke who placed 2nd to Sexton at Race 2 in Elwood last December.

Fellow AIS triathlete Jamie Huggett, will also add fuel to the power-house field with a win at the Victorian Sprint Distance Triathlon Championships last weekend.

Madeleine Oldfield, fresh from her win at the Victorian Long Course Triathlon Championships in Falls Creek, will be out to make it win number five. Oldfield has been undefeated in the Female Elite division throughout the 2010/11 season, with her closest rivals well off the pace.

In what has been Victoria's wettest summer in years, the swim leg of a
triathlon has been few and far between. The latest forecast published by
the Bureau of Meteorology is for perfect racing conditions with a sunny
day and a top of 28.

The Active Feet Fun Tri, held in conjunction with the Gatorade Triathlon
Series, is proving just as popular as beginner triathletes and social
competitors make their start in triathlons with the mini race format.

Race Report - Race 3 of the Gatorade Tri Series - Vic Olympic Distance Champs

January 9, 2011, 7:04pm
RACE REPORT - Race 3 of the Gatorade Triathlon Series - the Victorian
Olympic Distance Championships

Three time Gatorade Triathlon Series Winner Kristian McCartney clocked
up an impressive time of 1hr, 55mins to take out the Victorian Olympic
Distance Triathlon Championships 2011.

Doubling as the Victorian Championships, Race 3 of the Gatorade
Triathlon Series was held at Sandringham on Sunday 9th January 2011,
consisting of a 1500m swim, 40km bike ride and a 10km run.

With the absence of back to back race winner Brendan Sexton, the premier
series still proved to be one of the most highly competitive fields in
Australia.

However it was Monty Frankish, well known for his top 10 placings in the
Half Ironman distances, who took a strong lead on the bike, heading out
on the run with over a minute in front of the main field. McCartney's
blistering run-leg proved unstoppable for Frankish, with the youngster
holding on for third place.

In the female elite division, it was Madeleine Oldfield making it not
only an impressive three from three race wins, but also backing up her
Victorian Olympic Distance Triathlon Championship title from 2010.

Oldfield proved too strong for her rivals, in particular the field of
eager ITU Juniors who each race have taken a top 3 overall placing.

Over 1,800 competitors participated in yesterday's event which also
included the Gatorade Sprint Triathlon (750m/20km/5km) and Active Feet
Fun Tri (250m/10km/2.5km), both continuing to prove popular amongst
beginners and social competitors.

The next race in the Series, heads to Portarlington which celebrates
its' 25th anniversary, on Sunday 6 February 2011. Entries at
